The Gleaner, Jamaica’s leading media company and the oldest continuously published newspaper in the Western world, partners with Branded Editions, the award-winning technology powered by PressReader, for its new digital edition. Readers of the leading Jamaican publication and the evening tabloid The Star now have access to new, enhanced digital replicas.
The Gleaner, a morning broadsheet, is the group’s flagship, containing news, views, sports, and in-depth reporting. Founded in 1834 by Joshua and Jacob De Cordova, The Gleaner Media Company has always been at the forefront of innovation and technology. It became a public company in 1897 and has invested continuously in print and communications technologies.
Today, the group boasts over 15 print and online publications, owns two radio stations, and commands a greater market share than any other newspaper company in Jamaica.
The deal for the two digital editions is the latest chapter in the partnership between The Gleaner Media Group and PressReader Group of Companies. Both titles have been available to PressReader’s users and business partners patrons since 2015.
This opportunity strengthens Branded Editions’ presence in the anglophone northern hemisphere and strategically positions it in the Caribbean market. Jamaica is the third-largest anglophone country in the Americas after the United States and Canada and the fourth-largest in the Caribbean.
